2024 annual symposium

Meaning, Purpose and Redefining Retirement

  • Keynote Speaker: Richard Eisenberg
  • Date: October 4, 2024
  • Where: Nationwide Conference Center

As Americans live longer and healthier lives, we are redefining the period of life previously called “retirement”. Older Adults are more diverse than at any other point in time and one blueprint for life after primary careers cannot meet the needs of every individual. Neither can one idea of “retirement” meet the needs of our society as a whole.

2024 Annual Symposium

At this hybrid (In Person and Online) one-day event, we will look at the changing realities of the previous view that the first 22 years of life were for education, the next 45 years were to be productive both in raising families and in advancing careers leaving the last years for leisure. Thanks to advances in medicine, public health, housing and food security, we have an additional 20-30 years in average life expectancy. What are the non-financial consequences for all of us as we look toward our futures? What are the implications for those who are serving older adults? And how might our society consider new ways of thinking about and living well in our later decades of life?
