United Church Homes recently announced the appointment of Daniel J. Cannone, D.O. to the position of chief medical officer.
Dr. Cannone brings more than 30 years of experience in medical staff leadership positions with hospitals and post-acute providers located throughout the nation. He most recently served as chief medical officer for APEX Healthcare Solutions, a Chicago-based post-acute firm with facilities located in Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina and Utah.
He is a graduate of the University of Akron, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine and completed graduate work in human physiology. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine and surgery at the Kansas City (Missouri) University of Medicine & Biosciences. After completing his internship at Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) General (now Western Reserve) Hospital, he was appointed to the medical staff and has been affiliated with the hospital since the mid-1970s.
Dr. Cannone is considered to be one of the leading physician experts on long-term care issues in the United States. In addition to having served as medical director for multiple skilled nursing facilities in the Akron-Canton area, he also serves as an officer of Consortium Concepts, a long-term care educational and consulting company, and as a clinical professor of geriatric medicine for the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens. He has published in and presented at numerous national professional association conferences, and is co-founder of the Ohio Medical Director Association (OMDA).
“We are very excited to have someone with Dr. Cannone’s background and experience joining the United Church Homes senior management team,” said Rev. Kenneth Daniel, president and CEO. “He will play an integral role in helping us be well positioned in the rapidly emerging managed care environment, and will be responsible for establishing medical policies, standards of care, clinical pathways, medical director relationships and overseeing the quality of healthcare delivery.”
Dr. Cannone and his wife, Jean, are the parents of three grown children, including son, Dr. Sean Cannone, who serves as co-medical director at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
