MARION [Jan. 17, 2020] – Five staff members from Trinity Communities of Greater Dayton have received the 2019 Living UCH Values Award for demonstrating United Church Homes’ core values of compassion, hospitality, respect, integrity, stewardship and transparency.
Those who received the award were Teresa Webb, manager, Trinity Community at Fairwood; Julie Remsen, state-tested nursing assistant, Trinity Community at Beavercreek; Abel Lozano, STNA, and Joeann Lozano, restorative assistant, Trinity Community at Fairborn; and Paula Tatar, housekeeping assistant, Trinity Community at Miami Township.
Trinity Community at Fairwood’s housing manager, Teresa Webb, was nominated for her leadership during the tornadoes that devastated many areas of Greater Dayton in May. Trinity at Fairwood is an independent living community in Beavercreek, where some of the greatest damage occurred.
“When the weather turned, Teresa immediately drove to the apartment building to check on its 60 older adult residents,” Webb’s nominator wrote. “She remained there overnight during the power outage, making sure residents were safe and their needs were met.”
For Trinity at Beavercreek’s Remsen, her positive attitude and leadership abilities led to two nominations. Remsen comes in on her days off and is always willing to assist, one nominator wrote. Another staff member elaborated.
“Julie is always offering a helping hand to both residents and staff, even when it means stepping outside the bounds of her job description,” the colleague wrote. “She’s always willing and happy to participate in events that enrich residents’ lives. Julie is an example of what every Trinity employee should strive to be.”
At Trinity at Fairborn, spouses Abel and Joeann Lozano are making a difference in the lives of residents and other staff.
“Abel is unflappable,” his nominator wrote. “He is diligent in his role as a caregiver and feels deep compassion and sense of empathy for everyone who needs and receives his loving help.”
Abel seeks out residents facing the greatest challenges, his nominator continued.
The same staff member nominated Joeann, saying she is a model of integrity.
“She approaches her duties and her relationships with the residents, families and coworkers as though each individual deserves the very best of her attention and intention,” the nomination said. “On a day when there are too many tasks, Joeann rises to the occasion and gets it done well. Bravo!”
At UCH’s newest community, Trinity at Miami Township, Tatar has demonstrated compassion and integrity year-round.
“Paula goes above and beyond to keep the residents happy and their apartments clean,” a colleague wrote in the nomination. “Paula puts residents’ needs before her own. This shows her commitment and compassion.”
Nominations for the LUV Award may be made by staff, volunteers, residents or their families. Each month, UCH communities recognize recipients, and a select few are chosen for the UCH LUV Award at the corporate level.
“The 2019 Living United Church Homes Values Award recipients achieved UCH’s most coveted staff award,” said Scott Slutz, vice president of human resources. “These staff members exemplify the commitment to living UCH values every day. This award honors them for modeling the values that have become the hallmark of the United Church Homes experience and commitment to serving older adults.”
